+ What is a psychologist?
A psychologist studies how we think, feel and behave from a scientific viewpoint and applies this knowledge to help people understand, explain and change their behaviour.
+ What is telepsychology?
Telepsychology is the use of telephone or licensed online platforms, such as Zoom, to participate in sessions of psychotherapy.
+ Confidentiality
We respect your privacy and confidentiality. There are limits to confidentiality, and we are required by law to disclose specific confidential information in certain situations. Mandatory reporting situations include threatening harm to another person or yourself, information regarding the abuse or neglect of a child or vulnerable adult, or if a court subpoenas records. Exceptions to confidentiality will be discussed with you in your initial session. Your file will be maintained in a locked location.
+ What do I do if I have questions or concerns?
If you have questions or concerns regarding the collaborative therapy process, please reach out and we can discuss them further within a confidential session.
+ What is your cancellation policy?
A minimum of 24 hours’ notice is required if you are not able to keep your scheduled appointment. Any failure to notify us within this timeframe will result in the charging of a late cancellation fee. When booking your appointment, we reserve that time specifically for you and no one else. A cancellation or change to your appointment with due time allows us to offer that space to another person that requires treatment.
No-shows or cancellations that fall within the 24 hour limit will incur a fee equal to 50% of your regular session fee. Special circumstances behind a late cancellation may be considered.
+ What do I do if I would like to stop therapy?
The terminations of a session may occur for a number of reasons, it may be a joint agreement between your therapist and you, you may decide to end the sessions or you may decide to take a break. You have the right to stop therapy sessions without obligations other than the costs accrued to date.
+ What is Sunoka’s fee structure?
The cost of a counselling session is on a fee-for-service basis. Fee schedule is available upon request. Fees are established in accordance with recommended schedules. Fees may be paid by cash or cheque. Fees are due and payable at the time of the appointment.
We operate on a 24 hour cancellation policy. If you fail to cancel a scheduled appointment within the required 24 hours’ notice the charge is 50% of your regular fee. Circumstances behind the late cancellation will be considered. There may be additional fees for services such as report writing, letters, telephone consultation and court appearance.
Fees are payable at the end of each session. You may be eligible for coverage under an extended health plan or third party. Eligibility requirements, session limits and reimbursement may be different with each plan and varies from province to province. Please check with the administrator of your plan to determine coverage. Coverage such as WorkSafe BC, ICBC, WCB Alberta, Veterans Affairs Canada, FNHA & RCMP can be direct billed.
